The Otaku’s are coming, the Otaku’s are coming. The Otaku demographic is a vocal and generally lucrative market in Japan. These are people who would normally fit the basement dweller western stereotype of a nerd. We have seen them totally take over the vast majority of the anime market demanding their Wafius or they are out. What we have seen is the games industry is on the cusp of another take over of this regard. The newest metabots game is split into versions of chose your wafiu logic, MEDABOTS! I mean this is a game that has a system for breaking girls clothes like it was Akiba’s Strip. These games are flooding the market and a lot of the principles behind them are leaking into other series. Fire Emblem might be one of the more high profile examples of Otaku culture bleeding into games simply to pile in more money from peoples left hand bank.
Clothing bursts are only one of these nasty problems inside the Japanese games industry that we see pushed inside games. I believe there is rooms for all type of games in the games industry including porn games. My issue is the attempt to normalize this stuff and it becoming more and more of this acceptable thing in the games market. Harem romance elements are more
commonplace thanever in main steam games and all things being equal it at least wouldn’t be horrible. These games have a very strict view of their market, horny, straight, male likely on the younger side of the spectrum. There is so many other people with sex drives out there if you gotta sell sex at least make all things equal give us all sorts to grab our naughty bits to.
It also speaks to how these sort of things demean the female characters as characters. Every Atlus game now has Bikini and hot spring DLC stuff. It gets you to think of the female characters in the game as sex objects before you think of them as characters. At least as a secret unlock you get to know them first instead of knowing who you would rather ride the high way to pleasure town with. These DLCs may seem like harmless little extras and “at least they aren’t in the main game.” However, it still matters because it tell you how the creators value the character they are putting into the game. It isn’t even a fake “This is how they chose to dress” kind of excuse but instead straight up “Pay to get your frap bait, that’s what this person is.”
I don’t really have much more to say to this but it’s really just shocking where we Japanese entertainment is currently at. It really sucks because in my research for activist stuff in Japan it seems like the country is really good at ignoring the real issues. Still for many people around the world video games, manga and other media are an escape. It’s a shame that they are making it harder and harder for women to have this escape inside of Japan. Obviously a post by some american won’t change anything but I wanted to put out my thoughts to the Internets.
